The Rising Star
A Small Kayak for kids
The Rising Star is a small kayak intended for kids or small adults. It is proportioned like an adult kayak to give kids the feel and responsiveness of an adult kayak in a kid's size. This kayak is not an extra wide, stable kayak which limits a kids ability to learn the skills which an adult can enjoy such as leaning, bracing and Eskimo rolling. Its 20 inch width makes this an easily paddled kayak to give its captain the fun of speed. My 4-1/2 year old son paddled across about a quarter mile of long Island sound to "Dragon Island" and back without assistance in his Rising Star this summer.

How do I choose which version?
Custom sizes can be built upon request.
Rising Star plans include full size templates (tape the sheets together and mark your plywood by punching through the paper) and simple instructions. This boat uses stitch and glue construction and can be assembled in about 80 hour of work. It requires three sheets of Okoume plywood. Plans available for $85.00,
